What is weblog coaching?
Online, confidential, developmental coaching for managers or executives, individuals or teams providing you with:
- Support
- A sounding board
- An external perspective
- Objectivity
- A way to offload frustrations, concerns and worries
- A learning log
- A journal
- A tool to organise your thoughts and chart your progress
- A record of your ideas and reflections
- A source of inspiration
- A way to celebrate your success
Why weblog?
It’s so accessible
Wherever you can access the internet, you can access your weblog.
It fits your schedule – no appointment necessary
Whether it’s the middle of the night or a Sunday afternoon, you can capture your thoughts and feelings while they are present.
It’s yours
Your own creation, it reflects you and your development.
It’s flexible
Take 2 words or 20 paragraphs to express yourself.
It’s cathartic
Offloading what’s on your mind is a relief. Articulating your thoughts, feelings, ideas or problems in words usually leaves your feeling a whole lot better even before you receive your response.
It builds confidence
Communicating what’s tough is somehow easier to an external professional than a manager or colleague. Clarity brings confidence.
It’s a check in point
You get another opinion and so minimise mistakes like saying / doing things inappropriately, being misinterpreted etc.

CIPD
research shows that 99% of employers believe coaching can deliver tangible
benefits to both individuals and organisations. Having only one key executive
in an organisation who receives professional coaching, and who focuses
on their leadership skills as well as on how they are operating, can affect
tens, hundreds if not thousands of staff.
Organisations that are starting to embrace a coaching culture, such as
Tesco, Portman Building Society and Hilton, are seeing results, with increases
in profit and improved retention and staff satisfaction.

What weblog users say
Head of Finance
“I have found weblog coaching to be a really valuable source of support as I sometimes puzzle over the best approach to take with people in different situations. The weblog means I can get my reflections down, get some feedback and suggestions on them and feel reassured I'm on track. This is much better than experiencing doubts and not wanting to bother other people. It's meant I can get my thoughts down, clear my mind and then get on with the rest of the day.
The speed of the replies that I have received via my weblog has been first class. Almost 100% of the responses have been the same day and some of the replies have come back so quickly that I can act immediately on the issue and no delay has been caused. Mind you sometimes the blog will come back with a reply that has required me to carry out another task and you need to be committed and prepared to match the swift response.”
Team members during a reconciliation process after an investigation
“The weblog was used as a vehicle of information between us as well as a forum for staff development and coaching. None of us had used a blog before and were a little uncertain of the benefits at the beginning. However, it proved to be vital to us during the difficult time of working towards reconciliation. We used it to express our thoughts, ideas and feelings during the different stages. Maureen gave us feedback on our performance, suggestions for actions we could take and was able to boost our confidence, as it was needed. We had the reassurance of being able to access it from home as well as work, and even referred to it as our “lifeline” on occasions.”
“I found the blog an invaluable support system - I gained great comfort from frequently re-reading comments or statements that had been left as well as finding it a place to express myself with a group of like minded people rather than burdening my family all the time. As a coach, Maureen's level-headed, holistic approach to the problems and issues raised often made you look at things from a different perspective and her advice in dealing with situations was much valued. Maureen was also another voice for us as a group, giving us an alternative means of communication with our managers, often taking the more sensitive issues to them, which we may have left unsaid.
I'm a blog convert!”
Senior Manager
"Although I didn't use the weblog directly myself, I welcomed it as a resource for the team (one of many teams) that I manage. The weblog provided the team members with the opportunity to 'off load' and 'sort out' their thoughts, feelings and frustrations. This meant I did not need to devote additional time listening to 'all' their concerns which enabled all of us then to focus on the specific objectives and outcomes we needed to achieve as a team, and I needed to achieve as a manager.
The weblog communication enabled staff to present themselves to me as a manager with clearer thought processes and I was therefore able to use my time with staff to make progress quicker, alleviating anxieties and tension by achieving outcomes to everyone's benefit."
Director
"My first year as a Director was a rollercoaster ride so my blog became a record of those fantastic moments of elation and cries for help. It’s often difficult, from this rollercoaster ride, to gain perspective and to keep a focus on the business..…
Firstly, in writing my blog, I am able to "dump" my obstructive thoughts somewhere and get back to business, then, when it’s appropriate, I can return to those thoughts and work through the situation and the feelings I was experiencing.
Secondly, having Maureen as coach means I have someone steady on the ground watching my ride on the roller coaster. With her wealth of experience, she can help me to prepare myself for the future twists and turns I will face as a company director.
I value Maureen's commitment to confidentiality. The safe forum of the blog means I can express my fears and concerns confident these remain with her and confident I am supported in finding my own answers.
Why would I recommend using Maureen?
It's simple. I've yet to meet anyone as enthusiastic, insightful and committed to helping others achieve their potential as Maureen. My success as a Company Director is, I believe, as a direct result of my investment in weblog coaching with her."
